Youtube sebagai Media Penyebaran Imitasi Budaya Korea pada Komunitas Dance Cover K-Pop Kota Malang (CD + Cetak)
Technological advances from day to day make it easier for people in various fields, especially in the fields of information and communication. Along with the development of times and technology, various forms of new media have emerged. The characteristic of the new media is that it is more interactive, and uses computers because it is internet-based. One of them is YouTube social media which has a very big role in the younger generation who often consume video content on its platform. As an interactive social media platform, YouTube can easily spread various phenomena such as Hallyu or Korea Wave. This phenomenon has been successfull worldwide and has received a good response from various countries, especially Asian including Indonesia. One of the most popular Hallyu products today is Korean Pop or commonly called K-Pop. K-Pop seems to have become a global culture and has become the center of attention. It is not surprising that many people enjoy popular culture through various means and action.
This research aims to determine the spread of Korean culture to changes in the members’ lifestyle of K-Pop cover dance community in Malang City. This research is expected to contribute to the development of social sciences, especially communication science based on the development of media and cultural studies research. This research is expected to be a foundation in understanding the phenomenon of the spread of K-Pop culture through social media.
The research method in this study uses a qualitative description method with an ethnographic approach. The informants in this study were 5 members of the dance cover community of K-Pop History Maker in Malang City. The results showed that the act of imitation carried out by members of the K-Pop History Maker cover dance community in Malang City was not only limited to cover dance activities, but also through daily life styles such as fashion styles, ways of communicating, and ways of thinking. Informants do imitation actions driven by interest, support and recognition from the surrounding environment, as well as the aspirations to be achieved. So that the informants felt that they wanted to continue to imitate Korean culture. The informants’ interest in Indonesian culture was also shifted by a greater interest in Korean culture.
