Fakfak regency is one of the main nutmeg producing areas in West Papua Province.The area of nutmeg crops in Fakfak regency reached 6,071 hectares (58% of the total nutmeg area in West Papua Province) with production reaching 1,884 tons which is 11% of indonesia's total nutmeg production.Nutmeg has a high selling value with world nutmeg production reaching 25,000 tons per year, where Indonesia and Grenada dominate production and export (both for nutmeg and fuli seeds).The growing demand for nutmeg in the world market is due to the increasing use of nutmeg as raw materials for herbal medicines, cosmetics and food products.
The common problem in the spread of nutmeg crops in Fakfak Regency can still not be referred to as plantation crops, because in reality the majority of nutmeg crops in this district are the result of natural breeding that grows in the forests and is a hereditary heritage of the ancestors of the owners of nutmeg hamlets.Departing from the problem of cultivation that does not meet the criteria of good cultivation with the quality of quality standards that are still in question and the development of innovation of undeveloped products as the local economic potential of the design of Pala Science center which is expected to improve the regional economy by facilitating nutmeg cultivation technology with quality in accordance with nutmeg quality standards, developing product innovation in the field of pharmacy, food field , the field of health and beauty and able to educate the innovation and benefits of nutmeg plants to the community.
