The Impacts and The Process of Tempe Waste on The Environment in Malang, East Java (CD + Cetak)
Tempe is one of the processed soybean products with high protein and nutritious for body. It becomes one of the basic necessities for Indonesian society. Its processing has been scattered in Indonesia. Malang city becomes one of the cities with large tempe production, especially in Sanan Village. However, Malang with its large production of tempe is not separated from the waste of tempe processing. Tempe waste has a positive and negative impact, its positive impact on animal while its negative impact on the environment. There are two forms of tempe waste, solid waste and liquid waste. The solid waste can be used as cow food. Meanwhile, the liquid waste causes environmental pollution such as the polluted and smelled water especially river flows. As a matter of fact, the foul smell can interfere the breathing of surrounding community. Tempe waste treatment needs to be done to keep the environment healthy so it does not to interfere with human health. There are two simple ways to process tempe waste, filtration process and biogas process. Filtration process decreases chemical content on the liquid waste using porous media. In addition, biogas process produces methane gas through anaerobic fermentation process
