Book is one of the essential supports of education in Indonesia. The existence of books as the source of knowledge will help in enriching experience and adding insight. Thus, to increase knowledge and insight in the quality of education in Indonesia, it is necessary to have the book written by foreign authors (foreign language book). Aware of the situation we need foreign language book translators. Base on article 40 Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 28 of 2018 on Copyrights stated that the translation is one of protected works. Reinforcing copyright protection of the translation is valid for 50 years base on the Article 50 Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 28 of 2014 on Copyrights. From this explanation, the copyright of foreign language book translator have the same position as the original author where the rights at the holders are exclusive rights, they are moral rights and economic rights. The translation is innovative and independent work (derivative work). Thus, the translator of foreign language book is an independent creator. The translation of foreign language book as the purpose for education, science, research, and development has been regulated in Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 28 of 2019 on Copyrights juncto Government Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia Number 1 of 1989 on the Translation and/or Duplication of Copyright for Education, Science, Research and Development. The commercial purpose has been regulated by the license agreement. The legal protection for foreign language book translator where has been regulated in Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 28 of 2014 on Copyrights covers civil law and criminal law.
