This study aims to gain an in-depth understanding of the directive speech acts of the watmuri community's marriage ceremony, Tanimbar, West Southeast Maluku. The data of this study are speeches in the native language of the Tanimbar community which took place in the procession of a traditional marriage ceremony that included data on directive speech acts in which they commanded, begged, gave advice, and also advised. The results of this study indicate that in the traditional wedding ceremony of the Tanimbar community, data found in the directive speech act in the marriage ceremony procession are first, the directive speech act in the family gathering procession which is usually called kabotkit, secondly, the act of directive speech in the procession of the marriage ceremony is usually called with bebetu, third, the marriage ceremony procession taking the girl from her house is usually called kalabasa, and the last yai-tu is paying the treasure that is usually called with a case. Of the four processions in this traditional marriage ceremony, many use the speech acts of directive orders and requests. Waste is customary fines, such as ivory, men's earrings and gold chest pendants, which must be paid by the divorced husband or wife. A waste of money also means fines that must be paid to women who have been raped, insulted, or made temporary lovers but not later married. This customary treasure fine is intended to prevent divorce and also as a form of expression of restoration and respect for the dignity of women who have been divorced or abused. This study aims to describe Tanimbar's people understand the shift in the way of payment of property and their appreciation of women. The results show that the Tanimbar people started using money as a means of payment for property as determined by Tanimbar village officials (latupati). The Tanimbar village official is of the opinion that paying well with traditional objects and with money expresses respect for women. However, some Tanimbar residents still think that payment with customary objects is fairer and more respectful for women.
