Earthquake Resistant House: Indonesia's Effort to Survive (CD + Cetak)
Indonesia is located in Ring of Fire and between four tectonic plates. It makes Indonesia an earthquake-prone area, which means Indonesia experiences frequent earthquakes. In average, Indonesia experiences two deadly earthquakes and one tsunami per year. One of the impacts is structural failure that can make casualties. A lot of people lost their houses post-earthquake. It shows that Indonesian people do not have houses that are resistant to earthquake. Besides, a lot of people die and disable because of the building’s ruins. Therefore, Indonesian people need earthquake resistant houses to survive. In fact, Indonesian people still do not know about what earthquake resistant houses are and most of their houses were destroyed during the earthquake. Ministry of Pekerjaan Umum dan Permukiman Rakyat released regulations 05/PRT/N/2016 in 2016 to regulate how earthquake resistant houses are made. Besides, researchers in both government and universities keep trying to develop better earthquake resistant houses until now. The most suitable prototype house for Indonesia is Dome House or Teletubbies House, an earthquake resistant house produced by Prof. Nizam, M.Sc., Ph.D. It applies the principles of earthquake resistant houses which have symmetrical plan, strong joint, and lightweight materials.
