Celebrity worship syndrome in teenagers (CD + Cetak)
Celebrity is famous people who become the center of media attention. Celebrities get the contribution to make themselves popular. The popularity of celebrities makes them more famous and have a lot of fans. The writer takes the specific sample that is a singer from South Korea because K-pop industry gives a lot of fanatic fans cases and most of them are teenagers between ages 12 until 17 years old. In relation with ages, the teenagers have a personality crisis. The tendency of looking for self-identity make them used a celebrity as a role model. The fanatic fans who tend to para social or one-way relationships with celebrity idols are called celebrity worship syndrome. This relationship describes the one-way relation, it is mean fans know all about their idol but their idol did not. Celebrity worship has three aspects. There are, namely, entertainment-social celebrity worship, intense-personal celebrity worship, borderline-pathological celebrity worship. The factors why teenagers do celebrity worship first is the age of the teenagers, second is the social skill of teenagers and third is sex or gender of teenagers. This syndrome dangerous if done continuously. The individual may get a psychiatric disorder like depression and anxiety. Furthermore, the impact of celebrity worship syndrome are addiction and criminality, it makes fans less confident, and fans want to be like their idol. To measure the celebrity worship level in a person used celebrity worship scale and celebrity worship attitude scale. Celebrity worship scale to identify an individual in the level of worship divided into three. There are low worship, intermediate worship, and high worship. Whereas, celebrity attitude scale for identify an individual that have overly absorbed or addicted to their interest in a celebrity.
