Developing the better qualities of being a waitress based on the standardized proficiency of the standard operating procedure at savana Hotel and convention in Malang (CD)
On the Job Training Program is a program to equip students with working experiences and skills. By conducting this program, they are prepared to be ready to face tight competition among job-seeking competitors in the future. The writer has chosen to do OJT at Savana Hotel and Convention because it becomes the famous star hotel in Malang. Being a waiter or a waitress have to have the criteria of a good waiter based on Standard Operating Procedure (SOP); e.g. how to serve a guest, clear up the table, etc. On the Job Training Program, the writer was assigned at Savana Hotel and Convention as a waitress at Teratai Restaurant. During OJT Program, the writer did several jobs; such as: serving the guests, setting up the buffet table, etc. Because she was assigned as a waitress, then, she would like to write her report “Developing the Better Qualities of Being a Waitress Based on the Standardized Proficiency of the Standard Operating Procedure at Savana Hotel and Convention in Malang as the tittle. When the writer was at the Restaurant, she found both external (e.g. she was difficult to remember the names of foreign menu) and internal problems (e.g. she could not adapt to new job, people, etc.). To solve the internal problem, the writer learned herself to know the foreign menus. And for the external problem, the writer tried to make a joke when getting along with other tenants. After 2 months doing OJT, the writer has improved her working experiences and working skills significantly. It can be proved with her working skills as a waitress who can do various jobs (setting up and cleaning the buffet table, etc.). Besides, the writer has got a lot of knowledge on hospitality. It can be proved by her knowing about the SOP at Savana Hotel and Convention. The writer also has improved her grooming; one of which was that she could make up and neatly dress up during her working hour, etc. Based on the writer’s experience during OJT, the writer suggests that D-III English Program has to add the tourism subjects. It is very important for the students when they do OJT Program especially at a hotel, because they will know a lot about hotelier. In fact, there are still a lot of D-III English Program students do not know the names of hotel properties and their jobs at a hotel; such as: handling the guests, serving and many others. For Savana Hotel and Convention staff, they should improve the quality and quantity of its workers at Teratai Restaurant, so that they will give better service to the hotel visitors. Hopefully this report can be used as reference or review for the future student trainees.
