Kyai leadership in boarding school so that the students have the charisma ta'dzim (respect) to their kyai. Kyai led the boarding school by using a charismatic leadership style leadership styles clerics in general in various boarding schools. Charismatic leadership style can give different effects to each according to how people provide the leadership style influence. Leadership clerics became a major figure in leading the pesantren with features it possesses that has particularly students respect and obey him. This shows the entanglement between religious scholars and students to live a life in the boarding school environment. However, some students who have ties with the Islamic clerics in life do not necessarily have the ability to control themselves well. The situation may occur due to any students have different perspectives in applying self-control .
The independent variable in this study is charismatic kyai leadership, while the dependent variable was self-control. The subjects of this study were students of Madrasah Aliyah boarding Nurul Ulum Blitar totaling 721 students. This study used two scales , namely , the scale of charismatic kyai leadership comprising 150 items and self-control scale consisting of 150 aitem. Results of testing the validity of the use of the Pearson product moment suggesting that there charismatic kyai leadership scale 11 aitem fall, and fall aitem coefficient moving from 0,238 to 0,283 . While the self-control scale, there were 13 aitem, aitem coefficient moves from 0,233 to 0,283. Test result reliability using Cronbach alpha shows the correlation coefficient of 0,956 (charismatic kyai leadership) and 0,948 (self-control). It shows two scales measuring these variables is very reliable.
Based on the results of the analysis indicate that there is a Charismatic Leadership Kyai with self control . With a 5% significance known rtable = 0,138 for N = 215, then rcomputing (0,691 > rtable (0,138), so the hypothesis in this study received no correlation between charismatic kyai leadership with self control .
