The hard and tight competition to earn a job in the globalization era drives the D-III English Program Merdeka University Malang to establish an entrepreneurship-based curriculum followed by a preparatory-training, which is called On the Job Training (OJT) program.
The writer was given the opportunity to do On the Job Training at the Diah Aju Wisnuwardani Notary Public office as regular staff. The writer was chosen to be placed on this office for several considerations. The first consideration was that law field (Notary public) is the major that the writer takes in another faculty besides the D III English Program. The second, by taking OJT in that venue, the writer could get a lot of experience and knowledge that he did not get during his studies. The third, by knowing the job description of a notary public, the writer could compare it with other profession in the law field. The fourth, only a few people really know the function of notary public and it could be a good opportunity for the writer to give good services to the public. The last reason was that Notary Public will become an important profession in the future and it is a prospective job for the writer.
During the OJT, the writer was given some tasks, among others, drafting and typing contracts, giving legalization, waarmerking, and authentication. Because of such assignments, the writer had to master his skills and knowledge in the legal field. Even though the assignments were mostly related to legal matters, the writer also needed the skill and knowledge that he got from D-III English Program.
The writer experienced some problems at the beginning of his OJT, such as lack of “law language”, lack of law knowledge especially on notary public field, the new job environment, and new people that he met on his OJT venue. Even though the writer experienced such problems, at the end of OJT the writer became to like his job at the Diah Aju Wisnuwardani Notary Public Office.
The notary public field has a good future prospect, because in the future the public will entrust their legal matters more toward notary public, such as, in preparing their acts. It is a relevant job for the writer’s future career.
The suggestion that the writer provides here are for D-III English Program, the writer’s OJT venue, and for the reader.
For D-III English Program, the writer suggests that D-III English program has to find another OJT venue to give more variety for the students. D-III English has also to improve their quality of curriculum, lecturers, and service for the student.
For the writer’s OJT venue, Diah Aju Wisnuwardani Notary Public Office, the writer suggests that his OJT venue has to maintain and possible improve its human resources and service quality.
For the reader, the writer wants to share his experience that he got during OJT program. It is important that as learning beings, we should not concentrate only to one discipline. Mastery of more than one discipline will have a better prospect for our lives. The writer also suggests that we should love and enjoy the work that we do, whatever it is, if we want to be more successful.
