Facing globalization nowadays is not an easy thing to do. The competition in every aspect of life is getting harder and harder. People from every country have to compete against each other to survive, especially in job opportunity. There are so many people who desperately need jobs, while the working opportunity is not large enough to accommodate all job seekers. Endar Sugiarto (1997:107) state that the globalization era only needs people that are hard to defeat and professional in their work based on their abilities. So, only skillful people can survive in this condition.
For people living in Indonesia, facing the globalization era is harder than people from other countries because the situation is more fluctuating. It happens because Indonesia is experiencing crisis. Among others, the crisis was caused by many natural disasters which happened many times so that many companies, institutions and work places in this country became inactive and bankrupts. this makes the burden of job seekers more mounting. There are so many job seekers in Indonesia, however, but it is not an easy to find people who are really expert in particular jobs.
Therefore, D-III English Program Merdeka University Malang has in its curriculum a training program collaborating with other businesses or institutions called the On the Job Training (OJT) and it is compulsory for the sixth semester students. The actual program acts as a bridge between the working world and tertiary educational institution.
