To day we know that looking for the job is difficult, many of university graduates are jobless, its because of the low education or lack of skills. In generally known that Indonesian graduates are lack of competency, so they are not ready in the job situation. They are under the standard requirement for employment.
Responding to the phenomena above, D3 English Program of Merdeka University Malang applies the “Entrepreneurship – Bashed curriculum” in order to link the students and work, namely, On The Job Training (OJT). The main purpose of the s program is to introduce students to the real condition in the work place and training them how to be good workers and students will be mentally ready to go for work.
This program is actually a chance for student to promote their own potency to the prospective employer to be recruited.
4In this case, the writer takes PT.TELKOM KANCATEL Batu as the place for OJT
PT.TELKOM is a company of which its operation is in the form of communication services. KANCATEL Batu is one of 5(five) companies in Regional Division V East Java which has responsibility to give telecommunication service to customers in KANCATEL Batu area.
PT.TELKOM is a good example of Telecommunication Company that gives a great attention to the quality of service.
During the OJT program the writer was positioned in Unit Billing and Collection (UBC) division. As reminding call officer.
8Unit Billing and Connection is one of divisions in PT.TLEKOM Malang with the duty giving service to customer by remind the customer’s telephone bill. There are kinds of services there are Reminding Call, Reminding Letter and Door to Door.
Based one the writer’s experience the writer found a major problem in PT.TELKOM Batu that is about how to satisfy western customers who live in Batu and its surroundings.
There are a number of expatriates live in Batu and they also take advantage of PT.TELKOM service. Some of them are often late to pay off the phone bill. Therefore, the reminding call officer must remind them to pay the bill every month, of course the reminding call officer must have English skills in order to make their work easier. The problem is the reminding officers only know a little about English, so they cannot communicate with the foreign customers well and cannot send the message.
The solutions for these problem are :
- Sending private English teacher to teach them every month
- Giving speaking exercise to train their English skills
The writer personally got many advantages from doing OJT in PT.TELKOM Batu. She has learned the required skills to be TEKOM staff such as business correspondence, computer literacy, and marketing. She finally knew how to be good worker, how to identify problem and solve it effectively and efficiently.
