In general, place of praying such as small mosque needs to look clean, tidy, and kept pure so that whenever it is used for praying the prayer will feel comfortable and do not hesitate about its purity. Therefore, it needs special place for keeping the praying tool and sandals so that after doing the prayer the user could keep their equipment and sandals at the existing place.
The department of Industrial Engineering of Merdeka University of Malang has a small mosque located on the lecturer room and is usually used for praying. Like common mosque, the floor of this room was given a carpet. At this time, the praying equipment such as sarong, prayer rug and prayer robe were placed on unsuitable place (frame of steel functioning as shelf) and the user of this small mosque place their sandals inside the small mosque without any shelf or place to keep them, this made the small mosque look untidy.
Based on this observation, we concluded that the small mosque has no special shelf to keep the praying equipment and sandals. Therefore, it needs a shelf to keep the praying equipment and sandals in order to keep the tidiness and purity of the small mosque and also the comfort of the user.
The design always starts from the need and then ends with implementation of the design result on the field. The need comes from the human factor as the user of the design result, which must be designed well and considering every limitation and weaknesses on the human so that it resulted in suitable for the user. In order to make good design of the shelf according to the user wants and their comfort, then we distribute the questionnaire and data collection of anthropometry of the user of this small mosque.
