Growth of industries cause requirement of energy to rise to a significant mount, while supply of energy especially petroleum progressively attenuate. So they require looking for types of energy alternative like wind, solar energy, and etc. wind is one of alternative energy which can be used to fulfill the requirement of energy at industry or the other sector. One of the advantages wind energy is environmental friendliness. To be able exploit the wind energy needed equipments of energy conversion namely wind turbine.
Wind turbine is an energy conversion machine used to convert kinetic energy become mechanic energy which in the form of wind turbine axis rotation. In general wind turbine divided two kinds that are vertical axis and horizontal axis wind turbine. If we like to operational at high rotation hence used horizontal axis wind turbine, but if needed big torque so used vertical axis wind turbine.
One of the vertical axis wind turbine which become attention at this research, is L Blade-type Wind Turbine. L Blade-type wind turbine representing a new type of wind turbine result from modification of Savonius-type wind turbine. Characteristic of L blade-type wind turbine influenced by existence eccentric distance, that is gap/distance between tips of inner blade. At this research, author make variation of eccentric distance from 1/10, 1/8, 1/6, 1/4, and 0 (D) or without eccentric distance with wind turbine dimension 12 x 13 (D x H) (cm).
Experimental result indicates that eccentric distance of 1/10 D is the best result.
